Coastal Heating & Air Conditioning, a full service HVAC company based in Annapolis, Maryland, proudly received numerous honors at the ABC Chesapeake Shores’ 2014 Excellence in Construction & Safety Awards Banquet that was held on Sept. 25, 2014. Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc., which recognizes exceptional projects completed by member firms within the construction industry, was pleased to recognize Glenn Conklin and Debbie Buhr for their past and present contributions.
Coastal President Glenn Conklin Accepts Award
Conklin, who started the apprenticeship program at the Southern Maryland chapter 40 years ago, has been the president of Coastal Heating & Air Conditioning since its inception in 1974. Throughout his career, Conklin has served – or continues to serve – as a member or a trustee on several distinguished committees in Southern Maryland and the surrounding area. In addition, he also carries licenses as a Master HVAC Mechanic, a Master Gas Fitter, and a Master Restricted Electrician.
The Southern Maryland chapter has successfully trained more than 1000 apprentices in the past 40 years. Mr. Glenn Conklin’s supreme dedication and involvement is one of the reasons the program has been such a success. To honor his efforts, Angel Hicks, the Director of Education at ABC Chesapeake Shores, presented Glenn Conklin the first award of the evening – an Eagle statue for his “40 Years of Excellence in Educations.”
Coastal Vice President Debbie Buhr Accepts Award
A few moments later, ABC Chesapeake Shores announced it would honor an extraordinary woman in construction – Debbie Buhr. Buhr, who’s known by her peers as a strong and focused woman, has also been with Coastal Heating & Air Conditioning for more than 40 years. As stated by the presenter, Buhr exemplifies professionalism, job knowledge, honesty, and loyalty – all characteristics that a woman in construction should possess. She’s mastered many job titles, including her current vice presidency.
In addition to serving on the ABC Chesapeake Shores events committee for more than 10 years, Buhr also volunteers her time at the SPCA and Habitat-for-Humanity. Through Buhr’s efforts, Coastal Heating and Air Conditioning was able to install HVAC equipment and duct work for two Habitat-for-Humanity projects, a daycare home for underprivileged children, and a home that was destroyed in a fire.
Glenn Conklin and Debbie Buhr aren’t only an inspiration to those who work within the industry but also those who work outside of it. Coastal Heating & Air Conditioning’s growth and success is a testament to Conklin and Buhr’s commitment to service; these well-deserved awards are just the cherry on top.
